Another Extra helping

Confirmation that Extra will be returning to Brisbane TV screens in 2009 is contained in a Channel 9 media release that also announces that the station won the year in south-east Queensland. It quote station managing director Les Hart as saying:
"In 2009 we will be working to consolidate these results through the production of local programs Extra and Gold Coast News ..."
According to the release, Nine won SEQ in its 25-54 target demographic, as well as in the 18-29 demographic, and among all people. Nationally, it is also doing well among the "advertiser preferred" 25-54 age group.
PS: Seven still won the overall ratings nationally. There's a good summation of it all here.

As the slogan goes Brett,
As the slogan goes Brett, "Nine for Queensland, Nine for you"
I guess 7 is doing some soul searching... In a year they expected to win in Brisbane, they blew it.
Brett I think 7 blew it, six
Brett I think 7 blew it, six days after the Beijing closing ceremony. Because, the Olympics unofficial non-ratings period ran for 4 weeks not the usual two, therefore excluding Riverfire from this equation. No wonder Riverfire's moving to mid September next year...
Will there be a Riverfire
Will there be a Riverfire next year? The Riverfestival's been incorporated into the Brisbane Festival and the F-111s only have one year to go before decomissioning.
There will be Riverfire in
There will be Riverfire in 2009, but the date will have changed. They are scheduling it for September 12, against of all things, the first week of the NRL finals (particualy dangerous if there is either two Qld teams playing on September 12 or a QLD v QLD final) I wouldn't be surprised if the Riverfire broadcast rights are forced to be up for bids. Seven's going to have a uphill battle on its hands if it wants to retain Riverfire, it's already screwed up Indy...
I was just thinking about
I was just thinking about Riverfire without the F-111s. Maybe the Channel 7 chopper could fly over with Rod Young leaning out the door holding a flame thrower ...
Wouldn't attract 500,000 to
Wouldn't attract 500,000 to South Bank though. It wouldn't have as much drawing power as a Broncos V Lions game... (Oops Brett, said my hybrid Aussie Rules-Rugby League game idea out loud, but I wonder how many would want to see this curiosity take place, it could just save rugby league in Sydney, Sydney Swans V Manly Seaeagles hmmmm...)
I'm not a huge fan of

i thought the newly merged bris/river-festival had been scheduled for a later start, i.e. october
