Idol: The music nobody wants

Here's proof, if it's needed, that Australian Idol is a (waning) TV phenomenon, not a musical one. The Herald Sun reports: "The Idol top 10 album has stiffed on the charts, debuting yesterday at No. 96 with just 565 copies sold nationally. Only 19 copies were snapped up digitally." We await with bated breath the results for winner Wes Carr's debut CD.

I wish Wes better luck - he

I wish Wes better luck - he seems talented and worthy of success. Why does the Australian music industry continually anticipate Idol's demise..... I would have thought you guys would push the networks for a GREATER cut of programming for ANY music oriented shows. Surely Idol has its place ; its just it needs other shows to meet the needs of the other genres.

I don't wish him any ill,

I don't wish him any ill, I just think the process is flawed. It's about creating a TV program, not about creating careers. If people want to be music stars, they should expect to do the hard yards not just to win a competition and have a guaranteed career.
