Radio rumbles

A radio industry source tells me that the appointment of Jamie Dunn to the breakfast shift at 4BC next year has prompted an "unprecedented negative response" from the station's listeners and there are fears that it will "end in disaster". My source says the decision to hire Dunn was a deliberate attempt to target Triple M - which makes sense given their neighbouring demographic targets. Speaking of the Ms, the rumour mill also has it that The Cage may lose Sami Lukis next year, as she is being considered for a Sydney-based job with the Triple M network which would mean a radical change in her working hours.

Sami going to Sydney... If

Sami going to Sydney... If that rumor is true Brett, it won't just be Skippen who will be worried. Nine will be worried too, losing their frankful, I mean thankful fill-in. Besides, is John's contract coming up for renewal over at Seven...

I think it would take a

I think it would take a lot for John Schulter to "do a Bruce" and return to Channel 9 - and I'm not just talking money, of which Nine has very little.

An 'Unprecentended negative

An 'Unprecentended negative Response'....To what ??? 4BC's ratings have been a joke for so long,it's not funny.Greg Cary's latest rating was 4.9....The afternoon shows have been just as shambolic...Alex Bernard was sacked from the lunch time gig because she didn't rate,so...she turns up on weekends, with John Miller who didn't rate when he had afternoons...It's clear, even to a simpleton like me,that 4BC needs a totally fresh approach.
That's why Jamie returning home will prove to be such a masterstroke.People will talk about him...I've driven a taxi in Brisbane for ten years and I cant remember many conversations about Cary,Miller,Dick,Adams,Smith or the Bear...Most people ( for better or worse) dont know that 4BC even broadcasts. In my opinion, they've forgotten that being informative isn't enough...you still have to entertain...John Laws never forgot that...He always used to say..."I'm not here to inform...I'm here to entertain"...and sell numerous products !
Roll on 2009...Roll on Jamie !

I agree that 4BC

I agree that 4BC certainly needs a shake up. I think Jamie Dunn will do well but even if he attracts ratings in the morning, they'll need people through the day who can keep listeners locked to the station.

Channel Nine's been using

Channel Nine's been using Sami as weather presenter during Frank's (very) long absence. What will QTQ do if she moves to Sydney? Will Frank ever return?

It's almost a soap opera!

It's almost a soap opera! I don't know Sami Lukis but I imagine she would find it very hard to knock back a gig in Sydney, and cash-strapped Channel 9 would find it difficult to keep her in Brisbane.

Casting for

Casting for replacements...
Joseph May-Good for Christmas (tape).
Doug Murray-Summer only.
Frank Warrick-Only when he pleases.
Sami Lukis-Only when Frank's not pleased.
Emily Everywhere-Good candidate and able to focus on job. http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=ipnxmvn7tWA
Samantha Kume-Wherever she went, bring her back...
Eva Milic-Good newsreader, recent run with Paige while Foord was off for holidays surpassed expectations.
And two long shots, Brett.
Talitha Cummins-A steal from 7 and she is more than a pretty face...
Tracey Challenor-A student of Warrick's Weather 101, and would fit in well in any role.

Here's a wacky idea: why

Here's a wacky idea: why not have no weather person; let one of the newsreaders do it. I mean, it's not as if they are overstretched.

hang on! did sami lukis find

hang on! did sami lukis find her man?!

Was he lost?

Was he lost?

Sorry Brett! I haven't been

Sorry Brett! I haven't been following the soap opera - last I'd heard Sami Lukis moved back to Brisbane to hopefully solve her man drought. I was just trying to pick up where I left off...

I'm the one who should

I'm the one who should apologise, I was being flippant. I'm not up with the latest on her love life, I must say.

You'd wonder wouldn't you

You'd wonder wouldn't you Tonya? That search for a man claim was the most farcical ruse of the 07/08 media movements.

It was a weak excuse for Sami to leave Sydney (exhausted job opps, 1 by 1 they ended) as a small fish and head back to an even smaller pond, Brisbane. This was to give herself some perceived scale and publicity. It's like kids moving out of home yet returning when the going gets tough. Plenty have done this before, Mike Goldman to name one of many.

I'd wonder how many blokes would want to commit to Sami if they knew her for awhile. When Sami was the feature of a report on Extra this year about her 'coming home', doing weather etc, she refused to meet her colleagues from channel 9 at her own house, instead meeting in a nearby park. This is despite the reporter living in the same suburb as Sami and the loss of filming opps by siting the i/v in a park.
