Alan Jones has cancer

Alan Jones is not quitting; he is taking time off because he's been diagnosed with prostate cancer. More here. I don't agree with many of Jones's opinions, but I wish him well for a full recovery. I'm sure many pretenders to Jones's throne as king of Sydney radio will be disappointed that his announcement today was not that he was quitting his top-rating show on 2GB. The way things are going, he will outlast even perennial breakfast bridesmaid Kyle Sandilands.

Hi Brett ! Again I notice
Hi Brett ! Again I notice your use of the phrase "I don't agree with many of his opinions" in this piece. As it's the second time in a few days that you have stated this regarding a well known journo....I'm interested in knowing which radio and television people you do agree with.
Sorry for being
Sorry for being repetitive, Brad. While I wouldn't call Alan Jones a journo (and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't call himself one), I take the point that I also used the phrase in relation to Andrew Bolt. The reason I wrote it is that, unlike some other folks in the blogosphere, I believe in disclosure. That's why I always mention my past and present broadcasting adventures when I'm writing about the Brisbane radio ratings. There are no commentators with whom I agree 100 percent. What I do like is listening to or reading intelligent comment that is backed by conviction. What I don't like are the opportunists who will write or say something they don't believe simply because it will sell newspapers, get hits on the internet or score larger radio audiences. While I generally regard myself as slightly left of centre politically, I'm quite conservative in some respects and sometimes even enjoy the musings of people from the right like Bolt, Jones and Miranda Devine, as well as "lefties" such as Terry Sweetman (who, I must point out in the interests of disclosure, is a friend of mine) and Phillip Adams.
