Reinventing the Logies

Here's what the Chaser boys would do if they were running the Logies. Basically, they are saying what we all know - that the ceremony is usually long and boring, that it only involves the usual suspects, and that Chris Lilley will (or should) win everything.

And might I add always at

And might I add always at the same venue, always in the same city, and always on the same network. Look at the Primetime Emmys. They rotate networks and venues (in the case of last year, even seating plans were different as the ceremony was done in the round.) often. Bring the Logies back to a theatre setting (perhaps to a restored Regent or Brisbane's Lyric Theatre), Have the broadcaster decided by a lottery at the beginning of the year. (so Foxtel can get a shot at hosting the Logies too) and expand the Hall of Fame to a separate event with multiple inductees(possibly from 2009 for the 25th anniversary of the first induction.) That will get the Logies in my eyes back on track.

The "Where Are They Now"

The "Where Are They Now" category sounds quite good, as I glance at the cover of next week's "TV WEEK" noticing that two more of the young "STARZ" of "Home & Away" are leaving the show to enjoy the buzz of instant obscurity or guest spots on "All Saints".

But please, God, don't let Bindi Irwin win one !

I would rather be eaten by

I would rather be eaten by crocodiles than see Bindi "Australia's (future) answer to Miley Cyrus" Irwin win on Sunday night. The award is for best NEW TALENT people! Question: How can Bindi be considered a new talent?
A: If you count the countless programs she taped with her dad for Animal Planet, then she would be ineligible!

I agree with you. She

I agree with you. She should be ineligibe, but I would not be surprised if she wins. Common sense and plain facts don't enter into the picture when it comes to the Logies.

Better question, how can

Better question, how can Bindi be considered "Talent", old or new ? I am so hoping that one of those totally forgotten about in two years time, soapie starlet's get their hands on the award. Praying to see Bindi chuck a tanty when she doesn't win !

RIP. TV Week Logie Awards.

RIP. TV Week Logie Awards. 1958-2008. The Logies have finally jumped the shark, Brett. Bindi won the Most Popular "New" Talent, crude humor with cameras and booms coming out of C. Liccherdello's bottom and a tribute to Melbourne television on a night which was supposed to be about Australian television with hard rock music none the less. I am putting an open challenge to the three Brisbane TV stations, Step up Brisbane's local content to be competitive with the national content that the three commercial networks produce and force the PBL and Crown Logies duopoly to end. I actually want to see Paigey host next years Logies, in Australia's so-called TV "backwater", Brisbane as part of QTQ's 50th , with Extra getting the Hall of Fame. Forever Expo seems more appealing every minute! Brett, do you agree with my statement?

I would have thought the

I would have thought the Logies jumped the shark a long time ago, but it certainly does sound dire. Sadly I can't see programming on network TV becoming any more local - although a Brisbane-based Logies would be excellent (it's not going to happen while James Packer still has an investment in the network and owns the Crown, though. The good news is that, at the rate the technology is maturing, there will soon be local "TV" channels on the Internet.
