Dirty Dancing cleans up

The musical Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage had big seasons in Australia and Germany, broke a record for pre-sales in London and is now going great guns in Toronto before hitting the US. All this is enormous news for Australia producer Kevin Jacobsen, who bet that global audiences would embrace a musical based on a cult hit film. There's more on the Canadian production here.
Good news, yes ! I actually
Good news, yes ! I actually saw "Dirty Dancing" on stage before having ever seen the movie. Nine out of ten people don't believe that I could have missed out on such an iconic 1980's film, just when it was released it didn't appeal. I did buy a copy of the DVD after seeing the stageshow. And yes, I was surprised at how true the stageshow was to the movie, in some instances down to the exact costume and gestures of the actors. I hope that "DD" comes back to QPAC in the near future. It was a great deal of fun !

Yes, the stage version was a little cheesy. But I do think that in todays crazy world a big lump of "cheddar" does benefit one's soul in a major way !
